For a few consecutive years our aloe on the verge birthed forth new blooms matching the birthday years of my daughter Luisa . Nine, ten, eleven, twelve blooms like her own candelabra announcing her age, each consecutive year.
Today she turns 16 and the Aloe has since her 13th year stopped blooming. The memory remains powerful for me . Having sketched her for today , I was reminded and saw them bursting out her bag. She is as determined to bloom in the winter months as she is a fragrant flower in the summer days . Her determination is as hot as the warm colors of these Aloes tempered by the fresh green stick and strong fleshy leaves they sprout from. And so today I sketch my daughter and hope my message comes out clear . My admiration for her noble character , sensitive nature and keenly observant eye leaves no doubt in me that you will continue to grow and grasp life , always hoping, always confidant even in life’s imperfections. May you always walk humbly as you do, act fairly and may mercy and love follow you in your coming year. Love and truth , those ingredient s from which you may know is always there, always from us and always covers you wherever you may go. Have a wonderfully happy day sweet heart.
